Impact on performance

Last updated View as Markdown

This SDK mainly receives critical fixes. New capabilities are shipping in the CSQ SDK first.

Migrate to the CSQ SDK using our AI wizard.

Contentsquare strives to be non-intrusive and transparent to client app developers. The following are the technical specifics we can share on performance.

The following performance results were obtained under the following conditions:

ConditionValue
Device modeliPhone 11 Pro
iOS version16.5
Test App built using Xcode version15.3
Test App built with Swift version5.8

We conducted the tests using a default Master-Detail app built using ad hoc distribution with no app thinning and with Swift symbols stripped. In the app, the SDK was making calls to the public APIs, running, and collecting data in its default state.

PropertyValue
SDK size (installed size, no Bitcode)5.2Mb
Max RAM usage<2Mb
Max SDK CPU peak on event<3%
Data transmitted over network for a default batch size of 50 events
The size of the batch can be customized if needed
~29kb

Startup time is the additional duration (in milliseconds) the SDK adds when your app starts. It is measured in automated tests on physical devices across four iPhone generations, from the iPhone 13 (2021) to the iPhone 16 (2024). Together, these measurements demonstrate how performance impact varies across hardware generations and help you estimate expected performance on your users' devices.

DeviceiOS versionMedian added startup timeObserved range
iPhone 16 (2024)iOS 18~38.6 ms29.9–41.1 ms
iPhone 15 (2023)iOS 26~37.8 ms35.4–44.0 ms
iPhone 14 (2022)iOS 26~42.0 ms23.0–47.3 ms
iPhone 13 (2021)iOS 18~49.2 ms36.7–56.9 ms

Figures were measured using CS SDK for iOS version 4.53.0. Results for other SDK versions may differ.

Devices with less processing power than the iPhone 13 may experience higher startup impact than the values shown above.

Startup time depends on several factors:

  • The complexity of your app and its initial setup tasks
  • The device model, processing power, and system load (such as active background apps, battery level, or thermal throttling)
  • The iOS version
  • When the SDK is initialized and which SDK features are enabled
  • Whether the SDK is linked statically or as a dynamic framework

To measure startup time in your own app, test on the devices and iOS versions most relevant to your users. Compare two builds that differ only by the SDK integration, running them on the same device under identical conditions. Repeat each measurement multiple times and compare median values rather than single runs. You can use an XCTest performance test with XCTApplicationLaunchMetric ↗.
